The hardest part about being active is getting off the couch to start and continue a workout routine. Especially during the lockdown, where it’s easy to stay on the couch and play video games all day. There are too many distractions. I know I find myself “distracted”, whether it’s my computer or my puppy when I should be working out myself. Now more than ever finding even the simplest way to be active is essential. Coming from personal experience, I wasn’t able to continuously workout. I would stop three weeks in and start it up again in a few months, where I end up dropping it in a few weeks again. However, once I continued to stick with a routine, you could say it can be a bit addictive. These are a few things that helped me and can help you stay motivated.
Do it with Friends.
Anything with friends makes whatever it is more fun. Find a way to do it together safely or apart virtually with various video chat apps.
Get the Gold!
Make it competitive. Use apps like strava or fitbit, to match up with friends or strangers. Having that comparison with someone in similar condition could be that extra bit of motivation you need.
The Finish Line.
Set a goal to yourself. Whether it’s to get a six pack or get the fastest mile time in an app, having a goal to strive for is a great way not to feel lost during the process.
Treat Yourself.
Who says this process has to be miserable? Give yourself a reward when you reach a new milestone. Get the steak dinner you always wanted when you get to the fifth pull-up or buy the new PS5 when you get to your weight goal.
Write it Down.
Plan it out. Do some research before getting started. While push ups are great, it's only going to get you so far until you get bored of looking at the same floor.
